urban(Spin) Episode 005: Election Eve
CLICK BELOW TO LISTEN
So…this episode is like two weeks late. It was originally recorded the Sunday before election day and scheduled to air on November 3rd, 2008. However, in the hustle and bustle that was election week and the subsequent awe of election night, we simply neglected to push the publish button and put this episode out there. Our bad. This show will be a great hold over until next Monday’s show. I’ve met some really cool people recently and they all have pledged to come through and get it with us in the studio. Also, MAJOR announcements regarding the show are coming soon. I’ve partnered up with some new and exciting cats and ya’ll should see the benefits of those relationships in the next coming weeks. Check back all the time as I will be updating the hell out of this blog. Like literally multiple times a day. So enjoy this weeks show, and make sure you check out some of the repeats. All you have to do is click on the urban(Spin) podcasts link to the right and check out all the episodes from the past.
Yes I Can,
TONE
I represent that early 90’s to the fullest. In fact, the older I get the more I find myself listening to music from that era. I have rediscovered my love of the 90’s R&B Trio and/or Quartet. This song by Shai used to be my jam, it was def a part of the Tone MakeOut Mix.
So in episodes past we have evaluated signs that women are dating an inferior man…but rarely have we turned to the next page where we evaluate signs that the man is too good for his woman. Well…in true “Costa’s World” fashion we will reveal, discover, and debate this issue. This conversation is just like Fox News, “Fair and Balanced,” and Kia, Holla, and Primilee all weigh in on the issue. This weeks episode marks the end of having the girls as my co-hosts, but hopefully I will be able to get them to hang out next month also. Next week I am trying to get together some of the old crew and get them to weigh in on this historic election. Do hopefully you will hear some familiar voices in the next coming months. All praises due to Allah for the honorable Barack Obama.
In these trying economic times there are certain things we can be certain about. (1) Appreciation for Top Ramen always reaches a fever pitch when funds are tight, and I must admit, I loaded up on about 20 chicken flavor packages. (2) The number of unwanted pregnancies climb, mainly because since folks can afford to go out they choose to by a bottle of something and stay home. (3) You or someone you know is going to be out of work soon. So this week we concentrate on that and offer some signs that you are about to be fired. Many of you know that you have one foot in your own graves, and one more absence or one more extended lunch and you will find yourself filing unemployment papers. So let us help you, let us help you keep your job or at lease help you realize when its time to start looking for another one. If that fails, let us tell you what items to steal before you get escorted out. We keep it thorough round’ here.
There are a couple of sins that are unforgivable for men. To use a religious term, these sins are abominations. Men can be forgiving for most things, but THESE things fall into the, “Is Wayne Brady gonna have to choke a bitch” territory. Obviously cheating would fall on that list. Flirting is high on that list too, but one of the lessor known ultra-sins is talking recklessly about your man to OTHER MEN. Lil Wayne has a line in “Lolipop” where he says, “She said the nigga that she with ain’t shit, shorty say the nigga that she with can’t hit,” I say, “Tell that chick to shut the f*** up.” So that’s what today’s topic is all about, its all about addressing the issue that women have of excessive verbosity. We examine why women feel the need to talk about every damn thing that happens in their lives and why its not in their best interest to have conversations about their relationships with anyone except for Jesus.
A new era has begun. The era of Tony Costa has officially come to an end.
Last week we paid homage to a great man, a martyr, a man who was willing to do or say anything to open the eyes and reach the minds of his people. Yes, despite the fact that his constant assaults on women were often called unfair and biased, he never told the ladies what they wanted to hear, but rather he told them what they needed to hear. To the masses of African-Americans, European Americans, Crips, Bloods, Disciples and Lords…though you didn’t always agree with this positions, you learned to respect them. So the Urban Spin Show moves on with the principles that Tony Costa stood for. What are those principles? Honesty, Boldness, Empowerment and Justice. These are the ideals of a leader, and as I drop the Costa moniker from my name, trust that he will live on through the voice of Tony Price. So, other than dropping the name and changing the title, not much has changed, but I have stacked the decks against myself. Each show I will be joined by three women who will offer their own perspectives and will seek to debunk a lot of my personal ideas and theories. This month, I have two Urban Spin favorites: Holla, Kia, and I am proud to introduce Primilee. This week, we tackle the idea “It ain’t tricking if you got it” My response, bullshit.
It’s time for round #2 of this highly explosive two part series the “Battle of The Sexes.” Last week saw show hosts Dover&Dover and Tammi Lorraine assemble their own respective crews to debate gender issues, stereotypes and a wide variety of male/female topics. The show was hosted and moderated by yours truly, and I honestly did the best I could to remain objective and honest. If you haven’t listened to last weeks show, make sure you check it out, and for those who did listen, this weeks show is MUCH more objective. So…regardless of whether you are listening on a Monday morning or a Friday afternoon, you are gonna love the exciting conclusion to the His and Hers Battle of the Sexes…oh…wait…did I say conclusion? Well, after the girls took off and left the studio, the guys decided to turn the microphones on and get the last word. So make sure you come back on WEDNESDAY and get some uninterrupted “Guy Gospel”
